QuestionHow do I use a transponder in an interference analysis?
Answer
  1. Create a Chain object with an analog transponder, as shown below. In this example, the analog transponder is on a GEO satellite and the last link (between the retransmitter and the ground receiver) is the link being jammed.

  1. Create a retransmitter:
    1. From the Report & Graph Manager, generate the Bent Pipe Comm Link report for the chain of the analog transponder. In the example report below, the Power, Gain, and Frequency of the last link in the chain are highlighted.

  1. Add a Medium Transmitter, alongside the Transponder, to the Satellite object and open its properties.
  2. Enter the values for Xmtr Power2, Xmtr Gain2, and Received Frequency2 from the Bent Pipe Comm Link report into the Power, Gain, and Frequency fields on the Medium Transmitter's Model Specs tab.
  1. Add an interferer:
    1. Add a Satellite object and attach a Transmitter to it.
    2. Rename the Transmitter to Interferer.
  2. Create constellations:
    1. Add three constellations and name them Interferer, Rcvr, and Xmtr.
    2. Open the Rcvr constellation's properties and move the Ground Receiver to its assigned objects.
    3. Open the Interferer constellation's properties and move the Interferer Transmitter to its assigned objects.
    4. Open the Xmtr constellation's properties and move the Transmitter attached to the Transponder object to its assigned objects.
  3. Add a CommSystem object and make the following changes:
    1. On the CommSystem's Basic->Transmit properties page, move the Xmtr constellation to its assigned constellations.
    2. On the CommSystem's Basic->Receive properties page, move the Rcvr constellation to its assigned constellations.
    3. On the CommSystem's Basic->Interference properties page, move the Interferer constellation to its assigned constellations.
  4. Generate reports as needed for the CommSystem object.
