QuestionWhere can I find answers to questions about the Ansys Academic Partner Program?
Answer

Welcome to the Ansys Academic Partner Program (formerly AGI Educational Alliance Program (EAP)) frequently asked questions page! This long article contains responses to many common questions that come up for:

  1. People interested in the Ansys Academic Partner Program
  2. Schools ready to join the Ansys Academic Partner Program
  3. Administrators and students prepared to start installing and using STK

The Ansys Academic Partner Program distributes STK along with classroom content for instructors, professors, and administrations.

Program requirements
AGI provides STK licenses to our partners through our Terms and Conditions. This is administered with a signed contract to assure AGI that all licenses are used in accordance with the partnership guidelines.

The Ansys Academic Partner Program requires that AGI products be used strictly as an educational tool in a structured academic environment. Applicants must complete an application and submit course outlines that define how STK software will be utilized as a learning aid. Applicants will agree to a set of Terms and Conditions as a measure of acceptance into the program. Throughout the academic year, AGI may request instructor and student feedback and solicit course materials and student-developed scenarios and homework assignments utilizing STK.

How are Ansys Academic Partner Program licenses different from other STK licenses?
The STK educational license gives you access to capabilities, for advanced analysis, that extend the basic functions of STK. Ansys Academic Partner Program licenses have a fixed duration of one year and contain a "For Unfunded Educational Use" banner on the screen. Other than the banner, there is no difference between these licenses and the commercial licenses. Ansys Academic Partner Program licenses include the following licenses:

STK Enterprise, which is a comprehensive digital mission engineering package.

How many licenses can I request?
Ansys Academic Partner Program provides licenses based on the number of tasks (simultaneous users) that the professors expect to be using STK.

Can I give licenses directly to students?
AGI defers all licensing responsibility to each partner, and how they administer the licenses is the sole responsibility of each school. The Ansys Academic STK Teaching licenses can be installed in a lab for student use or made available via VPN. Each partner can decide how to distribute the requested licenses. Only the Ansys Support Coordinator POCs at each school may collect the licenses from the Ansys Customer Portal.

For students: AGI does not give out licenses directly to students, but instead to the partner. Should they require licenses, students are requested to contact their school administrator and not the AGI support department. If the school is not an educational partner, then please ask an instructor to consider joining this partnership so that all students at the university can benefit from using STK as part of the curriculum.

What information is needed to request a license, and how do I find it?
To request the educational license from the Ansys Customer Portal, you will need the license server information. You can find your license server information from the article How to Find Your Disk ID and Server Name.

Which version of STK should I use?
Educational licenses provided for the 2022-2023 school year or later are tied to STK version 12.4 or higher. If you were running STK 12.2 or lower in the past, you will need to upgrade. To get the latest version of STK, go to support.agi.com/downloads. Make sure to download all three sections of the STK Enterprise install.

How can I quickly get started using STK in my classroom?
Ansys provides a set of Digital Mission Engineering Courses that make use of STK. You are free to download, try, modify, and use any of these materials. However, you are expected to credit the appropriate source. You can use STK to teach courses in many fields and at all technical levels, from elementary school to graduate school. You can also take advantage of all the resources on our website, including:

  1. Frequently Asked Questions, Help documentation, and code samples at support.agi.com
  2. Training tutorials at Tutorial overview
  3. Training videos and tech tips on the AGI YouTube channel

What are the computer requirements for running STK?
To install STK, you must be an administrator or have elevated permission for the computer on which STK is being installed. Verify that the computer meets the System Requirements

Can I run STK offline?
Yes, you can borrow licenses. The Ansys Support Coordinator can recreate the license in the Licensing Portal to have it be a borrowable license. If they have troubles with that, the Sales Operations Orders Specialists (SOOSs) should be able to assist. You can contact your account manager, who can assist with the process, involving the right SOOS. After the borrowable license is set on your network, you can access it using the Ansys Client Settings Utility, which is under STK 12 in the Windows Start menu. Open this tool and click Borrow on the left to open the list of borrowable licenses. Any computer with the STK application installed has this tool.

How do I change the server information for the Ansys Academic Teaching License?
The Ansys Support Coordinator is able to make that change through the Ansys Licensing Portal.

My server license and client side license are set up, I have a green check mark on the client side, but I'm getting a message, "A current STK license could not be found. Start Ansys Client Licensing Settings to assist?".
Please make sure the port for the ansyslmd daemon is open on the license server firewall. Starting with 2021R1, the applications must communicate through ansyslmd and lmgrd, where past releases used lmgrd and the ansysli_server process on 2325.
