QuestionHow do I display the trajectory of a satellite in a different reference frame?
Answer
It sometimes makes sense to display the trajectory of a satellite in a reference frame other than the default inertial one. This example will show you how to display the trajectory of a GEO satellite in an Earth-fixed frame.

If you don't already have one, insert a satellite with the desired parameters:
• Insert a satellite using the Orbit Wizard method.
• Set Type to Geosynchronous.
• Set Subsatellite Point to the desired longitude.
• Click OK.

In the properties of your satellite, under 3D Graphics > Orbit System, select the Show check box next to "Fixed by Window" and clear the Show check box for "Inertial by Window". This sets the display to an Earth-fixed frame.

If you want to show the trajectory in another reference frame, add this frame using the "Add VGT System", "Add BBR System", or "Add VVLH System" button. For example, to show the trajectory relative to another satellite:

• Open the properties of the satellite for which you want to display the orbit.
• Go to the 3D Graphics -> Orbit System page.
• Click "Add VVLH System", select the reference satellite in the dialog box, and click OK.
• In the list of systems, clear the Show check box for "Inertial by Window" and select Show check box for "Satellite VVLH".
• Click OK to accept this change and close the property window.
