See Collada Model Help Topic and the section titled "Ancillary Features."
Download the Scenario that contains a satellite using a .dae model file (Properties > 3D Graphics > Model) containing a three-panel solar array that tracks the Sun and has solar panel groups. This will illustrate how to incorporate solar panel groups into a Collada model without an ancillary file.
Also included is a .blend file; open this in Blender to see the setup. The solar panel group cells need to be in their own layer. Open the DAE file in NotePad++ and set the language to XML. The stuff that is hand-coded and applies to STK has a tag entitled “extra”. Search for that and you’ll see which commands were inserted and where they are inserted.
